The project: Hinkley Point C Park and Ride and freight facility

The Hinkley Point C Park and Ride facilities at Bridgwater, Junction 24 on the M5, include parking for 620 cars and bus parking facilities. It also offers a freight management facility including parking for up to 80 heavy goods vehicles, a freight checking area, associated parking as well as welfare and security buildings. The site supports the traffic flow through Bridgwater towards the works areas at the power station, one of the UK’s largest nuclear projects.

Lucy Holt, Project Manager – Associated Developments of EDF Energy, working with principal contractor Costain, planned and developed the site plan to enable safe traffic management around the site.

The solution: Multibloc TVCB with fencing and access gates

Having previously used Hardstaff Multibloc TVCBs with Unifence to protect building assets on the site, Multibloc TVCBs also proved ideal to separate bus and delivery traffic, including HGVs, upon entry. More Unifence was added to protect goods and vehicles while held on site.

The plan required the repositioning of the existing system to create a protected fire exit route from the warehouse buildings, as goods were due to be stored on site to further reduce traffic movements.

The Hardstaff Multibloc TVCB and Unifence protect building assets from vehicle movements as well as protecting the perimeter of the site for general security. Access gates, including Multigate, were strategically placed to enable emergency and security personnel access around the perimeter without reducing security.

The outcome

“From design sign off to delivery and setup, it was very easy with Hardstaff. Hardstaff installers, working with Costain staff, were a pleasure to work with. A helpful and courteous team that I would recommend would have them back should a project require this kind of product in the future.”

Lucy Holt – Project Manager, Associated Developments, EDF Energy

“I would just like to say that the installation team you provided were outstanding and by far the most efficient and helpful team we have had on site. We would happily recommend them to anyone. Their safe way of working and attitude was second to none.”
