Class 1 HGV Driver - Days

Newport, South Wales

Full Time, Permanent 50 hrs p/w– split over a 7-day period. You may also be required to work additional hours, nights, and weekends on occasion, not exceeding an average of 48 hours per week over a certain reference period

The successful candidate will work within a leading supplier of fully approved temporary and permanent concrete barriers, including road safety barriers, hostile vehicle mitigation systems (HVM), perimeter fencing, concrete security barriers and access gates.

We are currently the sole contractor for the National Barrier Asset (NBA), a framework agreement to deploy HVM on behalf of counter terrorism policing HQ.

Purpose of the role:

As an HGV Driver on the day shift, your primary responsibility is the safe and efficient transport and delivery of our product to various construction and roadwork sites. This role is essential in supporting road safety projects by ensuring that these critical safety components are delivered on time, subsequently allowing for an apt installation.

 

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

  • Transportation of goods across land to and from distributors or to motorway and highway locations taking the quickest and safest route possible to meet delivery schedules
  • Ensure you will comply with all EU Drivers rules and regulations as well as all company policies and procedures
  • Complete daily and weekly vehicle defect sheet – all “Nil” defects must be reported
  • Report any vehicle, trailer, or plant damage immediately
  • Must have a working knowledge of what they can and cannot tow (it is the drivers’ responsibility not to exceed the maximum weight)
  • Ensure all loads are always safely secured
  • Report any breakdowns to the Fleet Manager
  • Always ensure the vehicle is parked safely and securely, never leaving it unlocked and with the keys in the ignition
  • Report all accidents and near misses to the Fleet Manager
  • Complete Accident Report Form on-site as and when required, and issue any third-party information also when necessary
  • Ensure vehicle is always checked and accepted by the Fleet Manager when handing back after any incident
  • Ensure any documentation including POD’s and timesheets are produced efficiently and accurately
  • Always ensure correct Personal Protective Equipment is worn and is in a clean and presentable condition, in accordance with any site
